Leah Pope, PhD
Leah G. Pope, Ph.D., is a Research Scientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and an Associate Professor of Clinical Behavioral Medicine in the Columbia University Department of Psychiatry (Division of Behavioral Health Services and Policy Research). Trained as an anthropologist, Dr. Pope has extensive experience conducting mixed methods research in the public mental health and criminal legal system. Dr. Pope’s research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Science Foundation, and private foundations including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the van Ameringen Foundation, the Wenner Gren Foundation and the Sozosei Foundation. Dr. Pope’s current work focuses primarily on crisis response, with research projects on the implementation of the 988 crisis line in New York State, the development of the crisis response workforce, and a randomized controlled trial of Crisis Intervention Team training for police officers.
