Elisabeth Iskander, PhD, is currently serving as Program Director at the NY State Psychiatric Center (NYSPI), in Quality Management.  Previously, Dr. Iskander worked in psychiatry research, first at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, with patients undergoing detoxification at Kings County Hospital, using brain wave recording to study the genetics of alcohol dependence. And then at Mt. Sinai Hospital/Bronx VA focusing on brain imaging, testing, and treatment of individuals with personality disorders, particularly borderline and schizotypal, and impulsive aggression.  She has authored or co-authored several publications and conference presentations. 

In graduate school, Dr. Iskander mostly trained in inpatient settings in NYC, including several OMH state hospitals. Her dissertation was on the prediction of violence in a forensic inpatient setting. After graduate school, she worked in a forensic hospital for several years, evaluating and treating pre-trial detainees from Rikers Island found not competent to stand trial, and those found not responsible for crimes due to mental illness. She has taught and supervised undergraduate and graduate students.  Dr. Iskander continues to do clinical consulting for research trials focused on treatment resistant depression and schizophrenia. 

Dr. Iskander received her BA from Hampshire College in Massachusetts, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.
